Winter Reflections and Events
WINTER is always a wonderful time for slowing down and taking time for reflection, walking in winter landscapes, and storytelling around fires – of course not forgetting our hard work to maintain access to the outside world! We welcome you to join us for winter events in the Great Room of the Long Barn or to book a cozy winter retreat. Meanwhile, we encourage you to look ahead and contact us if you are thinking about spring or summer dates because the 2024 calendar will be starting to fill up soon. Once-a-month Devotional Programs at Little Pond
On New Year’s Day, our Great Room was filled for a very beautiful Devotional and Peace Concert featuring Nora Scuggs on Japanese flute (shakuhachi) and Marilyn Hazleton with her Japanese tanka style poems, combined with nature images taking us through the four seasons. After the concert, people enjoyed refreshments and then a heartfelt discussion on how we could take action, each in our own way and in our many different faith traditions, to help bring peace and understanding to this suffering world. Building on this conversation, we return to our monthly devotionals, Sundays 1-3pm on February 11, March 10, April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28, and August 25.
February 11 – Blessed are those who work in groups
Inspired by a quote from the Baha’i writings, “Blessed are those who work in groups”, our Devotional Gathering on Sunday February 11, 1-3 pm will include poetry, prayers, stories, music, and sacred texts from many different traditions, as we focus on leadership, tolerance, and conflict resolution. We are delighted to collaborate with Bob Fahringer, who will provide live music for the program. As always, this will be followed by refreshments and conversation on our thoughts and feelings about the program and its theme. It helps us to know if you are coming, so please respond to [email protected].
Mindful Growers Meetup
Anisa George’s monthly Mindful Growers Meetup continues to bring together an enthusiastic and dedicated bunch of people interested in sustainable agriculture and environmental diversity. One of the highlights of the fall sessions was a field trip to Peter Christine’s Lehigh Valley farm for a tour of his evolving property and a workshop on Making Goat Cheese. The first 2024 Meetup at Little Pond was January 27 on the topic of Winter Pruning. Each Meetup includes an introductory discussion, directed activity and pot-luck lunch.
